Gabby Logan’s Sassy Response to Backlash Over ‘C**k Up’ Comment
As a journalist, I’ve seen my fair share of controversy, but Gabby Logan’s recent response to backlash over her ‘ck up’ comment during the Paris Olympics commentary has left me impressed. The 51-year-old TV star took to social media to defend herself after using the words ‘ck up’ twice while hosting the Olympics coverage for the BBC.

For those who may have missed it, Gabby was discussing the USA’s performance in the 4x100m relay with the BBC Athletics panel. She said, ‘OK, we’ve just had a kind of spoiler alert if you’ve just joined us on BBC One because Michael said, especially the way the USA c–ked up, so let’s go back and see the whole of that 4x100m relay in the men’s final.’ Her slip-up didn’t end there, as she used the words ‘c–k up’ once more, leaving fans taking to social media to criticise her choice of language.
But Gabby wasn’t having it. She broke her silence on the matter by tweeting the words ‘Good afternoon’ alongside a screenshot showing the definition of ‘c–k up.’ The definition read, ‘C–k up sounds rude but it isn’t.’ And honestly, I think she’s right.

As someone who’s worked in the industry for years, I can attest that sometimes, things slip out. It’s not always easy to be perfect, especially when you’re live on air. But what I love about Gabby’s response is that she’s not apologizing for something that, in my opinion, doesn’t warrant an apology.
In fact, I think Gabby’s response is a great example of how to handle backlash with class and sass. She’s not backing down, but she’s also not engaging with the haters. Instead, she’s rising above and showing that she’s not afraid to speak her mind.

As a society, we need to learn to take a joke and not be so quick to outrage. Gabby’s comment was harmless, and if we’re being real, it’s not like she said anything that we haven’t all thought at some point or another.
So, to Gabby Logan, I say, ‘Good afternoon’ right back at you. Keep being your fabulous self and don’t let the haters bring you down.
