I’ll be the first to admit that even the most seasoned of TV presenters can sometimes get their words mixed up. It’s an occupational hazard, really - after all, live television can be a minefield of unpredictable moments and blunders waiting to happen. So when I heard that Gabby Logan had been taken to task over her use of a rather colourful phrase during her recent Olympics commentary stint, I have to admit that I was more than a little intrigued.
What happened was this: during the coverage of the 4x100m relay event, Logan used the phrase ‘c**k up’ twice - presumably to describe a particularly costly mistake made by one of the athletes competing. Unfortunately for her, however, the BBC’s audience was not quite so understanding. Viewers were quick to express their outrage on social media, claiming that the presenter’s choice of language was unacceptable.
Gabby Logan, however, is not one to take criticism lying down. When confronted with the backlash, she decided to hit back with a bit of sass - posting a screenshot on X (formerly Twitter) of the dictionary definition of the offending phrase, accompanied by the enigmatic caption ‘Good afternoon’. Ouch!
It’s worth noting, of course, that this is far from the first time that Logan has made headlines with her straight-talking commentary style. She’s a breath of fresh air, if you ask me - unafraid to speak her mind and always ready with a witty remark to cut through the tension of a high-pressure sports event.
Still, as I’m sure many of us can attest, sometimes even the most innocent of mistakes can lead to disaster. And so it was with the athletes competing in the relay event, whose blunder on the track ended up costing them dearly. As Canada celebrated its hard-won victory, meanwhile, South Africa and Great Britain were left to ponder what might have been.
But hey, that’s all part of the fun of watching live sports, right? The thrill of victory, the agony of defeat… and of course, the inevitable slips of the tongue that happen along the way.

For those of us who were watching at home, it was all too easy to feel like we were right there in the thick of the action - wincing at every false move and groaning at every blunder. But at the end of the day, of course, we have to remember that even the best of us can make mistakes sometimes.
As someone who’s had their fair share of blunders on live TV, I have to say that I’m just a little bit in awe of Logan’s bravery in speaking her mind. Maybe it’s not always the most diplomatic thing to do, but hey - at least she’s not afraid to be herself.
And who knows? Maybe next time she’ll think twice before opening her mouth… but somehow I wouldn’t count on it.

Of course, this being the world of sports, it wasn’t long before everyone was weighing in with their two cents on the matter. As one athlete responded on social media, Logan’s remark had been a little too close to the bone - a bit too harsh, and more than a little unprofessional.
Still, as far as I’m concerned, that’s all part of the fun of watching live sports. After all, as any true sports fan will tell you, the best games are always the ones that keep us on the edge of our seats.
And speaking of edge-of-your-seat action… have you guys seen that incredible new highlight reel of the recent Premier League match between Manchester United and Liverpool? It’s seriously intense - the perfect combination of skill, strategy, and (of course) more than a few spectacular blunders.

In short, it’s a sports fan’s dream come true. And as someone who’s been watching sports for years, I can tell you that it doesn’t get much better than this.
Of course, at the end of the day, we all make mistakes - whether we’re athletes or commentators or just regular folks trying to navigate the ups and downs of everyday life. But as Gabby Logan’s recent controversy shows us, sometimes the best way to deal with those blunders is just to roll with them - and hope that everyone else does too.
So what do you guys think? Do you agree with Logan’s choice of language - or do you think she went a bit too far? Let me know in the comments!
